About Me
ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Kahmya McKinnon, and I am currently a sophomore majoring in nursing at East Carolina University. I decided to pursue a career in nursing because I have always had a passion for helping others and making a positive impact on people’s health. At the age of 13, I witnessed a family member who was born prematurely and seeing those dedicated nurses fight day and night to help bring back his strength and health is what inspired me to pursue a career as a neonatal nurse. This experience showed me how meaningful it is, not just for the patient but for their families as well.
Some of my strongest qualities that I pursue would be the ability to collaborate and communicate with a team in order to get things done in a timely manner. A nursing career requires patience, empathy, and problem-solving skills, skills that I was able to pick up by volunteering at childcare centers and being a part of various organizations on my college campus. My experience while volunteering taught me how to stay calm under pressure, approach challenges with empathy and compassion, and also understand the value of teamwork in delivering care.
In my free time, I enjoy hobbies such as baking, dancing, videography and photography. My hobbies allow me to maintain balance between both school and my personal life which I believe is essential for building a fulfilling career as a nurse. The hobbies also tie into my career goals by teaching me precision, focus, and promoting both a healthy mind and body which is ideal for healthcare.
Moving forward in my career, I'm interested in building skills in neonatal patient care, clinicals, and hands-on nursing experience. I hope to learn from experienced nurses who provide compassionate and specialized care to neonatal infants. My ultimate goal in my career is to become a reliable and confident neonatal nurse who can make an impactful difference in the lives of small patients and their families.
Thank you and I look forward to connecting with others who share a passion for healthcare and making a positive difference in the world!
